A Birthday Present made for Gardening

Over the weekend we celebrated the 30th birthday of a really dear friend of ours in Switzerland! Switzerland is only a 2 and half – 3 hour drive from where we live, so we decided to surprise her at midnight by showing up at the lovely home of her and her husband, just in time to be the first once to wish her happy birthday!:) Little did she know that we would be marching into her bedroom singing the birthday song as the church bells announced that it was September 1st, but it turned out to be such a great surprise and we had so much fun!

A few days before leaving for this little surprise trip of ours, we were looking for a gift, something that would be perfect for her! We knew we wanted to give her something that had to do with gardening, but didn’t really find anything that we really liked, that until my darling boyfriend had this great idea: a Gardening Apron! I’m not sure how he got to this idea, but it sounded perfect. The only problem was that we could not find one single store where they sold Gardening Aprons, not even close! But then this lady at a hardware store told us that we should take a look in the workwear section. Having nothing to loose to we walked over and immediately saw these Overalls! Dark grey and orange, the perfect size and they looked like they would stand the test of time in a garden, so we bought them and a bunch of different vegetables seeds! Gift; Check!

The only problem was that I couldn’t imagine turing up for her birthday with these grey overalls looking like they did, so I took them with me into my sewing room and gave them a garden inspired makeover!

A few touches made with cotton and felt fabric, a few pearls and some ribbon made these Overalls looking fun and great for a lovely lady and her garden projects.

I hand stitched a red and white checkered fabric onto the pocket flap, added flowers and leafs cut out in red and green felt fabric, and replaced the company tag in the back with a self made name tag.

Then it came time to wrap the present and I figured that it might be fun to make a little purse to place the Overalls in, instead of using wrapping paper. So I used of the same red and white checkered fabric I had used to decorate the Overalls, together with some dark grey water resistant fabric and turned it into this cute little purse she can also use as a smart tool carrier in the garden! (more on how to make this little purse I will come back to later)

I love giving a way gifts when they have been personalized for the person I’m giving them too, it just makes it that much more special! And it really doesn’t take a lot of time or resources to make something like a pair of Overalls looking great, all you need is a few ideas and a creative mind!
